Fire extinguishers

Take a look around and you’ll see that you are surrounded by flammable items and materials. Therefore it is always handy to have an extinguisher which could help you in case of fire. Extinguishers are only used to extinguish initial fire and prevent it from spreading. You should always evaluate the size of fire and the risk before using the extinguisher.

,,Trade and services center of Iksada” offers extinguishers of various types (powder based, carbonic acid based or foam based) and for various purposes (for residential premises, offices, warehouses, factories, vehicles, planes, ships).

Classification of fires

Class A. Hard flammable materials: wood, paper, rubber, plastics, textile and similar.

Class B. Flammable liquids: petrol, spirits, polishers, oils and similar.

Class C. Flammable gases: hydrogen, acetylene, hydrocarbons and similar.

Class D. Flammable metals and alloys: potassium, sodium, magnesium.

Types of extinguishers

Powder based extinguishers are considered universal because they can be used for fighting A, B and C class fires and extinguishing operating electrical installations up to 1000 V. These extinguishers are also very popular because of their effective temperature range (they are effective from -40o to +50o) and extinguishing area. Extinguishing can be executed from a safe distance. This extinguisher is often chosen because it’s price point is lower than of similar extinguishers. Extinguishers as well as amount and quality of extinguishing material inside the extinguisher must be checked at least once a year.

Carbonic acid extinguishers are used for fighting B class fires and for extinguishing operating electrical installations up to 1000 V. It is most suitable for fighting fires of B class, i.e. burning liquids, for example spirits, petrol, polishers, various oils and other. Please keep in mind that this extinguisher should not be used in small premises because of danger of suffocation caused by high concentrations of carbon dioxide. Extinguishers as well as amount and quality of extinguishing material inside the extinguisher must be checked at least once a year.

Foam extinguishers are used for fighting A and B class fires. It is forbidden to use it for extinguishing operating electrical devices. This extinguisher cools down hot materials; helps reduce the losses caused by fire, compared to using powder based extinguisher. Two types are available: for cold premises – effective at – 20oC to + 60oC temperature and for warm premises – effective at + 5oC to + 60oC temperature. Extinguishers as well as amount and quality of extinguishing material inside the extinguisher must be checked at least once a year.

IMPORTANT ! Extinguishers as well as amount and quality of extinguishing material inside the extinguisher must be checked at least once a year. Housing of extinguisher must by hydraulically tested at least once every 5 years. It is forbidden to use extinguisher with expired extinguishing material.
